Black Label Not long after Jaime Partagas sailed from Spain to Cuba, he founded the cigar brand that bears his name. The year was 1845. Yet the greatest chapters of Partagas history were written by two other men, Ramón Cifuentes and the son who was named after him. Whether working together or alone, it was those two great cigar masters who made Partagas the leading Cuban cigar. But in 196l, two years after Fidel Castro had seized control of the Cuban government, Ramón Cifuentes was forced to flee the island, never to return. Seventeen years later, he was finally able to begin creating his Partagas cigars again, this time in the Dominican Republic, where his unmatched tradition of cigar making remains alive and well.
And it was there as well as in the fertile Connecticut River Valley that he began to train a young man named Daniel Nuñez to become his eventual successor. Now the cigar master of Partagas, Daniel Nuñez is the creator of Partagas Black Label and many other innovations.
In order to create Partagas Black Label, Daniel Nuñez and his colleagues spent 10 years perfecting the Medio Tempo wrapper and the La Vega Especial binder. Cuban-seed Medio Tempo wrappers are darker, heavier and richer than other wrappers because they are harvested only after they have been allowed to age on their plants 50% longer than other wrapper leaves. The La Vega Especial binder is sun-grown in the Dominican Republic to give it a deep, rich flavor of its own. To enhance the cigar's full-bodied character even further, the blend is a mixture of Nicaraguan Ligero and Dominican Piloto Cubano Ligero. These tobaccos and a larger ring gauge translate into a richer, fuller-bodied flavor.
Partagas Black Label is an espresso of a cigar, extremely dark in color and extra rich in flavor.
Spanish Rosado
In developing the Partagas Spanish Rosado, Daniel Nunez searched for a rich taste that is not currently found in any other premium cigar. The search led Daniel to the San Agustin Valley in Honduras. The Honduran wrapper on the Partagas Spanish Rosado is grown exclusively for General Cigar and offers a unique taste that he desires. The name Spanish Rosado is direct reference to this wrapper tobacco. Spanish describes the country of Spain's influence in Honduran history as well as the homeland of the Partagas founder, Jaime Partagas. Rosado describes the reddish-brown color on this rich, oily wrapper.
Because of the uniqueness of the soil in the San Agustin Valley, the wrapper provides a spicy taste with hints of cinnamon that burns white, leaving a beautiful ash. A Connecticut Broadleaf binder with a blend of Dominican, Honduran and Mexican tobaccos combine to make this medium to full-bodied cigar a must-have for serious cigar smokers.

Limited Reserve
Always a restless perfectionist, Ramón Cifuentes became fascinated by the challenge of creating a super-premium Partagas cigar. The task proved to be an arduous one, but the great cigar master eventually gave his approval to release the first Partagas Limited Reserve cigars in 1991. Since they were introduced, Partagas Limited Reserve cigars have become as famous for their scarcity as they are for their quality, because the rigorous standards for these cigars preclude anything but the most limited production .
For the blend, only one of every hundred of the longest, finest filler leaves grown in the Dominican Republic and the St. Andrés Tuxtla Valley of Mexico are selected and aged in numbered lots. For the wrappers, only an average of three in a thousand of the richest Cameroon wrapper leaves are selected from the Partagas reserves. The tobaccos and ultimately the cigars then undergo the most prolonged aging processes in rooms built of Spanish cedar. Carefully monitored after regular intervals, only those cigars that mature most gradually are deemed worthy of the Partagas Limited Reserve name. From the month and year the cigars are placed in cedar-room storage to the earliest release date for the packed cigars, the details of the aging process are duly recorded by hand on a notice of certification contained in each handcrafted mahogany box.
To savor a Partagas Limited Reserve cigar is to treasure the exquisite qualities of the rarest of all cigars.
